Firms wanting to locate IT staff could make use of a new online service launched last week, designed to connect companies and available contractors.
The Resource Broker is a UK-based online business marketplace. IT contractors can create their own online member profiles, outlining their skills, services and location. Whenever a member organisation has a new requirement, contractors with relevant expertise are alerted and invited to bid to be the supplier.
Steve Christian, the company’s founder and managing director, said he designed the site to work in any sector, but initially chose IT because of his background in the industry.
“I have worked in IT, on the corporate, small and medium enterprise and contractor side. I needed a service like this in the past, but there was nothing there,” Christian said.
Christian added that the service might be able to reduce IT skills shortages by encouraging firms to tender out their technology staff in quiet periods.
“There are many organisations that have skilled workers but there are times when they aren’t being used,” he said. “With our service, an organisation can create a profile for an entire project team, which is then put on our database. If any business opportunities are created which match, we’ll send out an alert.”
This flexibility could also appeal to smaller companies, because they can use the system to bring in skills during busy periods, Christian added.
The Resource Broker is free for IT contractors, but a brokerage fee applies to organisations finding staff via the service.
